When you’re planning a bathroom extension, there’s lots to think about.
One thing we often find is that people get distracted with tile choice and paint colour, and they forget the minor details like where the toilet roll holder should go and how far the tap should project into the sink. These minor details are just as important as the big choices (sometimes, even more important actually), so you mustn’t overlook them.
As experienced bathroom renovators, we have a few planning tips up our sleeves, so we decided we should let you in on them. Here are our top 5 tips for planning a beautiful bathroom extension.
1. What’s wrong with your current bathroom?
Thinking about the way your bathroom looks is easy. Understanding what is actually wrong with it is a little trickier. But, this step is extremely important. Once you start to have an idea about what you dislike, you can start thinking about fixing it.
For example, if you’re sick of standing in the bath to shower, you should prioritise a standalone shower. If bottles of shampoo and conditioner around the edge of your shower annoy you, maybe you need more storage or an inset ledge. Understanding why you dislike your bathroom will help you design one you love.
2. How do you want your bathroom to feel?
Maybe you want something airy and neutral, with clean lines and lots of white. Or perhaps you’re all about colour, loud patterns and quirky finishing touches.
Whatever the case, decide on the overall feel of your bathroom before you start deciding on the fixtures, fittings and finishing touches. Create a Pinterest board and start pinning bathrooms that you love. You’ll soon start to see a common theme. Once you have got your theme/vibe nailed, you can start ordering. This will help you create a cohesive space.
3. What’s realistic?
Whilst you’re planning the new fixtures, layout and finishing touches, don’t forget to be realistic… especially when it comes to space and budget.
Even if you’re desperate for a his and hers sink, there’s no point cramming it in if it will make your space feel small. Similarly, as beautiful as copper bathtubs are, they don’t fit in everyone’s budget.
Stay realistic when planning your bathroom renovations so you can get a finished result that you’re happy with, and that doesn’t break the bank.
